Victim or Hypocrite? Kim Kardashian Vents About Being Harassed by Paparazzi
"A paparazzi almost crashed into my car today!" she tweeted. "I am still shaking! He put me in such danger! When will this legalized stalking stop???!!!???
What Kardashian forgot to mention was that if it weren't for the paparazzi, she wouldn't be nearly as rich and famous as she is today. Even during her pregnancy, the reality TV star seems to strategically dress for the cameras, virtually sending out engraved invitations for photographers to snap pictures of her. For instance, on her recent family vacay to Greece, she wore a skimpy bikini to the beach, showing off her baby bump.
The incident that prompted last night's tweet involved Kardashian being pursued by a paparazzo who reportedly almost crashed into her car. It follows Friday's episode in which her baby daddy Kanye West bumped into a street sign and went off on one of the celeb chasers. "Don't take another f*****g photo man," he yelled at one of the photographers, who sounded like a frightened kid as he kept insisting, "I just got here."
The problem with a celebrity like Kardashian complaining about paparazzi is they have played a big part in making her famous. Without the constant pictures of Kim doing everything from going to the gym to house hunting with West, she would not be as valuable a commodity.
Kardashian has made millions of dollars licensing products from perfumes to blue jeans. According to the Daily Mail, she makes $10,000 per tweet to promote commercial products like Midori (for which she has since been replaced by "The Vampire Diaries'" Candice Accola). There is almost no business the reality TV star has not dabbled in, shy of funeral homes and denture adhesives.
Kardashian has come a long way from playing second fiddle to her mentor Paris Hilton, whose star has dimmed in comparison to her more frequently photographed protégé.
Thanks to her fame, Kardashian was able to charge the media $18 million for various rights to her allegedly staged wedding two summers ago, including the sale of bridal shower pictures to OK magazine, wedding photos to People, and a TV special on E!
As of last May, Forbes magazine estimated Kardashian's net worth at $35 million.
What the mom-to-be may not realize is she may have far more to lose if the paparazzi stop following her around. As her grandmother might say, "Be careful what you wish for."
