Accomplished Ana moves on

Ana continued her fine form at the AEGON Classic by outclassing Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-3, 6-2. Just as she had done the previous night, Ana triumphed inside an hour as she eased into the quarter-finals.
The second seed and the 20-year-old keenly contested the opening few games. Though the Canadian's height is listed by the WTA as 183 centimetres, she appeared a little taller and used her stature to great effect with her booming service. A 119mph ace saved a break point in the fourth game.

Ana, who remained un-broken throughout the match, scored one of the luckiest breaks of her career during the sixth game. At 15-15 Marino produced a trademark big first serve, which Ana got her racket to.

The ball didn't look likely to clear the net, but it dropped right onto the net cord and trickled over, leaving the Canadian stranded. Another net cord assisted Ana on break point itself.

With her nose in front, the 23-year-old's confidence grew and she began to dominate. Though Marino held her off for the opening few games of the second set, a break in the fifth game signalled Ana's superiority and she closed out the match just before the clock hit one hour.

"It was another good match," said Ana. "She has a very good serve and didn't give me much rhythm, but I handled it quite well."

Ana withdrew from the doubles competition - she was due to team up with Tamira Paszek against Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci - because of pain in her left wrist.

"I am confident I'll be okay for my singles match," she said. "It hurt today, but I managed to get through it."

Ana is due to take on Croatian Mirjana Lucic in the quarter-finals on Friday.
